Alexis Mac Allister is on track to add another medal to his growing collection by the end of the season, having played a key role in Liverpool’s latest match.
Much of the post-match discussion has revolved around James Tarkowski’s challenge on the midfielder, which fortunately did not result in a more serious injury. Despite the rough tackle, the World Cup winner was able to get back on his feet and contribute significantly to Liverpool’s victory.
After the final whistle, Mac Allister took to Instagram, posting: “These matches are played with passion and soul. One more, one less 💪.” However, it was his choice of images that grabbed attention, as he led with a picture of Tarkowski’s dangerous challenge on him.
This subtle move effectively highlighted both the reckless nature of the tackle and the baffling decision not to issue a red card.
The PGMOL has since acknowledged that an error was made regarding the incident, reinforcing the frustration over the officials’ handling of the situation.
Former referee chief Keith Hackett went as far as to call it “sheer incompetence of the highest order,” with Paul Tierney once again at the center of controversy. The fact that VAR, with access to multiple replays, failed to overturn the on-field decision raises serious concerns about the standard of officiating in English football.
