Fans have claimed that Sky Sports artificially created the atmosphere during Liverpool’s Merseyside derby against Everton.
On Wednesday evening, Liverpool resumed their Premier League campaign, determined to reclaim their 12-point advantage over Arsenal. Under the floodlights at Anfield, the team had to rally against a determined Everton side. Ultimately, manager Arne Slot’s squad secured a 1-0 win thanks to a 57th-minute strike from Diogo Jota.
Before kickoff, the mood at Anfield was electric, with the home crowd passionately singing “You’ll Never Walk Alone.” However, viewers on Sky Sports noticed that the audio did not seem to match the live action, leading many to accuse the broadcaster of fabricating the stadium atmosphere.
One fan remarked, “Sky faking the famous Anfield atmosphere. Couldn’t write it.” Another tweeted, “Sky Sports proving Anfield does have a recording of the fans singing YNWA.” A third added, “Sky Sports screwed up the Anfield speakers. Confirmed Myth of an atmosphere.” Yet another commented, “SKY SPORTS FAKING THE ANFIELD ATMOSPHERE, listen closely.” A fifth speculated, “Did Liverpool’s speakers just break during YNWA and show their ‘atmosphere’ for what it is, or are Sky playing fake audio over the top to promote a fake atmosphere?” SPORTbible has reached out to Sky Sports for comment.
With this crucial win, Liverpool now sit 13 points away from clinching the Premier League title. After the match, captain Virgil van Dijk said, “I think everyone wants to be in our position and we worked so hard to be in our position. Now we have to keep going, keep the same focus, keep the same mentality as we have been doing the whole season. The season so far has been outstanding and we just have to keep going.” He added, “We have a tough one again in London on Sunday that we have to be ready for and that will be the focus right now.”
