Andrea Berta has officially taken on his new role as Arsenal’s Sporting Director.
Berta joins the club from Atletico Madrid, stepping in after Edu resigned earlier this season—a departure that came as a surprise to Arsenal. However, the Gunners have now secured the Brazilian’s replacement.
With plenty on his plate, Berta faces an important challenge. Arsenal is gearing up for a crucial summer transfer window, with the search for a top striker high on the agenda. Alexander Isak is the club’s ideal target, but before pursuing a marquee signing, Berta must first handle some internal matters.
According to Fabrizio Romano, securing Bukayo Saka’s contract extension is Berta’s main focus at the moment.
Saka’s Contract Tops Berta’s Agenda
Romano has reported that Berta’s immediate priority is ensuring Saka commits to a new deal. Fortunately for Arsenal, the winger is happy at the club, and there’s no sense of urgency since his current contract runs until 2027.
Speaking on the situation, Romano explained:
“While Arsenal have several key matters to address, the top priority remains Bukayo Saka’s contract. His current deal expires in 2027, so there’s no immediate concern. However, the club is keen to extend his stay.”
Negotiations have already begun, with Saka and his representatives set to meet with Berta to discuss the club’s long-term plans under his leadership. While preliminary discussions took place months ago, understanding the new director’s vision will be crucial in finalizing an agreement.
Despite these talks, Arsenal remains calm, believing that Saka is fully committed to the club. He is focused on Arsenal’s season and is expected to be available for their Champions League clash against Real Madrid.
Arsenal’s Contract Situations Under Review
Beyond Saka, Berta will also need to address several other contract matters. Jorginho and Thomas Partey’s deals are set to expire this summer, and both remain influential squad members.
Meanwhile, William Saliba is in line for a contract extension, while Arsenal may also evaluate the futures of Leandro Trossard and Oleksandr Zinchenko.
