Liverpool fans believe Arne Slot made two crucial mistakes in their Champions League Round of 16 penalty shootout defeat to Paris Saint-Germain at Anfield.
The Reds entered the second leg with a 1-0 advantage from Harvey Elliott’s late winner in Paris. However, PSG leveled the aggregate score just 12 minutes into the return leg after Ousmane Dembélé capitalized on a defensive mistake by Ibrahima Konaté.
Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson, who was outstanding in the first leg, was called upon multiple times again, while PSG’s Gianluigi Donnarumma also made several key saves — including a brilliant stop to deny Luis Díaz’s powerful header, arguably the save of the night.
Still, many fans felt that starting Díaz was one of two major selection errors Slot made.
One fan wrote, “Why Slot started Diaz and Jota is beyond me.”

Ultimately, Liverpool fell short in the penalty shootout, with Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones missing their attempts. PSG, on the other hand, converted all four of their spot-kicks confidently, with Desire Doue scoring the decisive penalty to send Luis Enrique’s side to the quarter-finals.
With their Champions League campaign over, Liverpool will now shift their focus to the Premier League title race and the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle at Wembley later this month. The Reds currently lead Arsenal by 15 points at the top of the league table.
As for PSG, this marks their second consecutive season reaching the Champions League quarter-finals, having made it to the semi-finals last year before being eliminated by Borussia Dortmund.
