Liverpool fans are seriously concerned after witnessing Mohamed Salah’s reaction following their Champions League exit at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain.
Liverpool were eliminated from the competition after a tense penalty shootout at Anfield on Tuesday, allowing PSG to progress to the quarter-finals.
Having lost 1-0 in Paris during the first leg, Liverpool managed to level the tie on aggregate with Ousmane Dembele’s goal in the 12th minute.
With the game locked after extra-time, the shootout saw PSG come out on top, winning 4-1. Salah successfully converted Liverpool’s only penalty, while Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones missed theirs.
After the heartbreaking loss, Salah was visibly emotional, brought to tears as he applauded the Anfield crowd.
The 32-year-old appeared deeply affected, leading many fans to speculate that this could mark the end of his legendary tenure at Liverpool, especially with his contract expiring this summer.
Some fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to share their thoughts. One wrote, “His last match in the Champions League for Liverpool?”
Another said, “Now I’m starting to think he could be gone in the summer.”
A third added, “Wasn’t good in either leg, to be honest. Needed to step up and didn’t. Hopefully, it’s not his last UCL game for us.”
Despite having an outstanding season with 32 goals in all competitions, Salah couldn’t help his team secure a place in the next round.
After the dramatic encounter, Arne Slot described the game as “the best football match” he’s ever been part of.
Speaking to Amazon Prime, he said: “It was the best game of football I have ever been involved in. An incredible performance, especially compared to last week. Maybe luck wasn’t on our side — the margins were so small.
We played an almost perfect game, apart from scoring. It was similar to Paris when they played well but didn’t score. In extra time, perhaps they had a slight edge.”
