A fresh update on Liverpool star Mo Salah’s future has surfaced just hours before their crucial Champions League round of 16 second leg against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday.
Liverpool, who secured a 1-0 win in Paris last week thanks to a late goal from substitute Harvey Elliott, will host PSG at Anfield. Salah was substituted in that first leg after failing to score, with Elliott quickly netting the decisive goal.
However, Salah was back on the scoresheet over the weekend, scoring two penalties in Liverpool’s 3-1 victory over Southampton, a result that also saw him climb to third on the club’s all-time top scorers list.
Despite his strong form, Salah’s contract is still set to expire at the end of the season. Reports indicate that Saudi Pro League giants Al Hilal are ready to offer the 32-year-old a staggering €50 million per season to lure him to Saudi Arabia as their next marquee signing.
Meanwhile, a new report from SPORT in Spain suggests Salah has presented himself to Barcelona, potentially seeking a move to the La Liga leaders under Hansi Flick. Although Barcelona would struggle to meet his current wage demands without a significant pay cut, they can still offer Champions League football and top-level European competition.
Though there were informal talks between Salah and Barcelona at the end of 2024, no formal offer was made. While Salah is free to negotiate with overseas clubs, there’s been little indication from Liverpool that a contract extension is forthcoming.
Barcelona reportedly believe that if Salah has been offered a new deal but hasn’t signed, it may be because he is eyeing a move away from Liverpool and the Premier League.
Salah is enjoying a remarkable season, having racked up 32 goals and 22 assists across all competitions.
