Liverpool’s summer transfer plans are beginning to take shape as they gear up for some much-needed squad reinforcements.
With Arsenal’s recent draw against Manchester United moving Liverpool closer to clinching the Premier League title, the Reds are on track for a successful end to the season. However, new manager Arne Slot is already focusing on strengthening the team for next season.
Still working with the squad inherited from Jurgen Klopp, and after three quiet transfer windows, Liverpool are now preparing to be active in the market. One of the main areas identified for improvement is left-back, where Andy Robertson has faced challenges this season.
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Slot and sporting director Richard Hughes have narrowed down their search to three candidates.
Milos Kerkez emerges as a top target
Robertson has held the left-back spot since 2018, with Kostas Tsimikas providing backup over the past five years. While both have been key players, a refresh in this position is now seen as necessary.
Romano reports that Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez is currently Liverpool’s leading choice for left-back and is one of three targets already approved by Slot.
Speaking to Give Me Sport, Romano explains:
“It’s still early and nothing has been finalized, but Liverpool are targeting a new left-back and a centre-back this summer, and Kerkez is one of the main names on their shortlist. Contacts are expected to continue over the coming months. Liverpool’s interest is serious, and Kerkez, who is considered ‘world-class,’ is keen on playing Champions League football — making a summer move possible.”
As for the price, Romano adds: “Sources suggest a fee around €40-45 million could get the deal done, though Bournemouth will set the final asking price as the window approaches.”
Other left-back options on Liverpool’s radar
While Kerkez appears to be the priority, Liverpool are also keeping tabs on other options.
Wolves’ Rayan Ait-Nouri, frequently linked to Liverpool, could be a more affordable and experienced alternative. Fulham’s Antonee Robinson has also caught the Reds’ attention this season and is viewed as a ready-made solution.
Additionally, Ajax’s Jorrel Hato has been mentioned, though he might be considered more of a central defender than a left-back.
Still, Kerkez seems to be Liverpool’s primary target as Slot looks to strengthen the squad for the upcoming season.
