“We’re here to succeed”: Mikel Merino on Arsenal’s emphatic Champions League victory.

Mikel Merino says Arsenal are aiming for Champions League glory after thrashing PSV 7-1 in the Round of 16.

“If you enter a competition like this without believing you can win, there’s no point in playing,” the Spaniard said after scoring in the dominant victory.

“Every team in this tournament should have that ambition—and we certainly do.

“We are here to win, to compete in every match, and if we perform at our best, we will be close to achieving it.

“But we can’t get ahead of ourselves. We should be proud of tonight, but our focus must shift to the next game. It’s coming up fast, and we need to maintain the same mentality.”

Reflecting on the emphatic win, Merino highlighted the significance of the night.

“It’s a historic moment for everyone. Scoring so many goals, having six different scorers, and pressing relentlessly until the end shows the hunger in this team.

“I’m incredibly proud of the squad and grateful to be part of this journey.”
