Arne Slot reacts to Liverpool fans’ ‘we are going to win the league’ chants after 2-0 victory over Man City.

Arne Slot has addressed claims that Liverpool have effectively secured the Premier League title after their 2-0 victory over Manchester City on Sunday.

Liverpool dominated at the Etihad, earning their first league win at the stadium since the 2015/16 season. Goals from Mo Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai in the first half gave them a comfortable lead, helping Slot’s team extend their advantage at the top of the table to 11 points ahead of Arsenal.

As the match neared its conclusion, Liverpool supporters were heard chanting “we are going to win the league” at Manchester City fans, especially after Arsenal’s loss to West Ham made their title hopes look even stronger.

After the game, Slot was asked about the fans’ confidence and whether he shared their belief that Liverpool would reclaim the title.

“A week ago, people were saying that only beating Wolves 2-1 wasn’t good enough. Then, three days later, I was being asked if we were in decline because we drew at Villa Park, which I actually think was a strong result,” Slot told beIN Sport.

“And now, suddenly, the narrative has completely changed. That’s not how I see things—I thought the Villa draw was good, the Wolves win was good, and I think this victory over Man City is a good one too.”

The Liverpool manager emphasized that his team’s recent results haven’t come easily and stressed the importance of staying focused with 11 matches still left to play.

“We still have 11 games to go. Some people talk as if it’s already decided, but we know how much effort it takes to keep winning.”

Slot also praised Salah’s performance, as the forward set six records in the match with his goal and assist.

“The stats speak for themselves,” Slot said. “He was a constant threat, which shows the kind of quality he has. It’s not easy for an attacker to defend, win the ball, and then produce something special, but he does it.”
