However, other pressing issues remain. Romano reports that Liverpool is actively pursuing a new centre-back, with the club aiming to secure a high-profile signing.
“I can confirm that Liverpool are really advancing the process to identify the centre-back they want to sign in the summer,” Romano stated on YouTube. “Liverpool will go for an important centre-back.
“In an internal meeting with Richard Hughes, Arne Slot, and other board members, there was full agreement on signing a significant centre-back in the summer window. This could be either a top young talent or an established player.”
Romano’s comments suggest Liverpool is targeting a prominent, in-demand defender, though the exact name remains uncertain.
The urgency is clear. Ibrahima Konaté’s contract expires in 2026, and reports indicate PSG is interested in bringing him back. Meanwhile, Van Dijk’s contract situation is unresolved, and both Jarell Quansah and Joe Gomez have struggled with consistency.
With these uncertainties, signing a centre-back seems inevitable—now it’s just a question of who Liverpool will bring in.
