Liverpool manager Arne Slot has introduced a significant change in training ahead of their highly anticipated clash with Manchester City.
On Sunday afternoon, Liverpool will face one of their toughest challenges of the Premier League season as they travel to the Etihad Stadium to take on their recent rivals, Manchester City.
With Arsenal suffering a surprising 1-0 defeat to West Ham United at the Emirates on Saturday, Liverpool now has an even greater incentive to secure a crucial victory.
Aware of the high stakes, Slot has opted for a strategic adjustment in preparation for the match. Instead of the usual intense training sessions leading up to such a crucial fixture, he has rescheduled Liverpool’s pre-match press conference from Friday to Thursday. This decision allows the squad an extra day of rest before their trip to Manchester.
This isn’t the only notable change Slot has introduced since taking over from Jurgen Klopp last summer. He has also allowed players to stay at home rather than in a hotel before home games.
Last month, Slot explained his reasoning behind such decisions, stating, “If possible, we always prefer to have them off three days before a game. It’s not always possible, but we try.”
Earlier in the season, this strategy proved effective when Liverpool secured a 2-0 victory over Manchester City in December, just four days after defeating Real Madrid at Anfield.
Back in October, Slot told Sky Sports that he hadn’t made any major rule changes at Liverpool, emphasizing the club’s existing strong culture of professionalism. “Maybe we’ve implemented one or two, but if you ask me which ones, I don’t even know. There was already a great culture of players being on time, so I don’t need to enforce fines or strict rules—it’s just expected.”
