Darwin Nunez has struggled to impress at Liverpool during the 2024/25 season and is now expected to be included in a deal for a new striker.
The Uruguayan forward has managed just six goals and five assists in 34 appearances across all competitions this season (Transfermarkt).
Liverpool looking to offload Nunez for a new forward
Such numbers are unlikely to meet the high expectations of Liverpool’s demanding manager, Arne Slot.
In fact, Fabrizio Romano previously reported that a deal was nearly finalized in January to send Nunez to the Saudi Pro League. Meanwhile, reports suggest Liverpool is considering four potential replacements, signaling that Nunez’s time at Anfield could be coming to an abrupt end.
One leading candidate is Newcastle’s star striker, Alexander Isak. According to Football Insider, Liverpool is prepared to offer both cash and Nunez in an attempt to sign the in-form Swedish international. The report also states that sources view Isak as an “ideal” fit for the Reds.
While Nunez has struggled in front of goal, Isak has been in excellent form, scoring 19 goals and providing five assists in 29 matches during the 2024/25 campaign (Transfermarkt).
Isak’s price tag could complicate the deal
Newcastle is expected to demand over £100m for Isak, which could present an obstacle for Liverpool. However, if the Magpies fail to secure Champions League qualification and Isak expresses a desire to leave, they may be forced to reconsider their asking price.
