Liverpool manager Arne Slot has been officially charged by the Football Association after being sent off following his team’s 2-2 draw against Everton on Wednesday.
Slot and his assistant, Sipke Hulshoff, were both shown red cards by referee Michael Oliver after an incident that occurred post-match. Initially, the Premier League’s official website stated that Slot would receive a two-match touchline ban. However, this announcement was later removed, with journalist James Pearce from The Athletic confirming it was an error.
The FA has now formally charged both Slot and Hulshoff. According to their statement, Slot is accused of acting improperly and/or using insulting or abusive language and behavior toward both the referee and an assistant referee after the final whistle. Hulshoff is also alleged to have acted improperly and used offensive language or behavior, both during the game and after being sent off.
Additionally, Liverpool have been charged with failing to control their players and/or technical staff in the aftermath of the match.
All parties have until Wednesday, February 19, to respond to the charges. This means Slot will still be on the touchline for Liverpool’s upcoming match against Wolves at Anfield on Sunday.
When asked about the incident in his pre-match press conference on Friday, Slot refrained from discussing details, citing the ongoing process. However, he acknowledged that his emotions got the better of him, particularly due to the extended stoppage time and a controversial VAR decision. He admitted he would aim to handle such situations differently in the future.
