Harvey Elliott Takes a Swipe at Everton Fans by Downplaying Goodison Park Atmosphere After 2-2 Merseyside Derby Draw
Harvey Elliott appeared to mock Everton supporters by dismissing the impact of the Goodison Park atmosphere following Liverpool’s dramatic 2-2 draw in the final Merseyside derby at the historic stadium.
Liverpool looked set to snatch all three points in their last clash at Goodison before Everton’s move to Bramley-Moore Dock Stadium. Mohamed Salah put the Reds ahead in the 73rd minute, following Alexis Mac Allister’s equalizer in response to Beto’s early opener. However, James Tarkowski salvaged a point for Everton with a dramatic 98th-minute goal, sending the Gwladys Street Stand into wild celebrations. Liverpool felt the goal should have been ruled out for a foul on Ibrahima Konaté, but VAR allowed it to stand.
Elliott Claims Only Liverpool Fans Were ‘Felt’
Though he didn’t feature in the match, Elliott had plenty to say about the game and the crowd. Asked about the atmosphere, he downplayed Everton’s support, emphasizing that he only “felt” the presence of Liverpool fans.
When questioned about the roar of the crowd in the final moments, he smirked and responded:
“Not really (I didn’t feel the crowd)… yeah (I felt the roar of), Liverpool fans.”
His comments seemed aimed at rattling Everton supporters, but he wasn’t the only player to stir up controversy. Abdoulaye Doucoure was sent off after the game for provoking Liverpool fans, while Curtis Jones also saw red following a clash with the Malian midfielder.
Liverpool manager Arne Slot and his assistant Sipke Hulshoff were dismissed post-match for protesting Tarkowski’s equalizer, with Slot engaging in a tense handshake with referee Michael Oliver.
The heated encounter showcased the fierce intensity of the Merseyside derby, proving the rivalry remains as passionate as ever ahead of Everton’s move to their new home next season.
