In a recent interview with Spanish outlet La Media Inglesa, Alexis Mac Allister shared insights into his future plans while discussing a variety of topics.
The 26-year-old midfielder, who joined Liverpool from Brighton in 2023 for approximately £35 million, has been a standout performer under Arne Slot this season. While his statistics—three goals in 33 appearances—may not seem remarkable, he has built an excellent midfield partnership with Ryan Gravenberch.
Wataru Endo, another Liverpool midfielder, recently expressed his admiration for playing alongside Mac Allister. Speaking on The Wataru Endo Podcast, he praised the Argentine’s versatility.
“He’s an incredible player,” Endo said. “He can do everything—attacking, defending—he’s very well-rounded. Last season, he even played as a number six, and he did really well. He has a great shot, excellent passing, and he’s a fighter. I’m really happy to play with him.”
Mac Allister also spoke about his desire to return to Argentina at some point in his career.
“Every Argentine player dreams of coming back home,” he told La Media Inglesa. “But personal factors like family, security, and the state of the country influence that decision. I love Argentina, and I’ve always said I’d like to return one day. Despite the challenges, there’s so much good in our country, and I hope to go back in the future.”
Having developed at Argentinos Juniors in Buenos Aires, Mac Allister remains deeply connected to his roots.
During the interview, he also reflected on Liverpool’s transition under Arne Slot. Comparing the new manager’s approach to Jurgen Klopp’s style, he noted a shift toward a more patient, possession-based system.
“Previously, we were a very direct team, but now we try to be more patient and maintain possession,” he explained. “With the quality and physical ability of our squad, keeping the ball allows us to conserve energy and stay fresh.”
On Klopp’s departure, Mac Allister acknowledged the German’s impact and influence on his move to Liverpool.
“He’s a legend,” he said. “It was sad to see him go, but it was his choice, and we have to respect that. Change brings uncertainty, but we were fortunate to get a great coach in Arne Slot. We’re performing better than expected, and that’s because of him—he’s strong and ambitious.”
Reflecting on his transfer to Liverpool, Mac Allister credited Klopp and former sporting director Julian Ward for their key roles in bringing him to Anfield.
“They showed a lot of interest in me,” he said. “I had a conversation with Klopp before signing, and knowing that they really wanted me and saw me as an important player made all the difference.”
