Liverpool may have come closer to selling Darwin Nunez during the January transfer window than many initially realized.
The Uruguayan striker was heavily pursued by Saudi clubs, with Al-Nassr reportedly making two bids. However, with Liverpool competing on multiple fronts—the Carabao Cup, FA Cup, Champions League, and Premier League—keeping Nunez became a practical decision.
So far in the 2024/25 season, the former Benfica forward has contributed 11 goal involvements (six goals, five assists) in 32 appearances across all competitions. Despite this, his overall impact has declined, with his goal contribution rate dropping from one every 97.61 minutes in 2023/24 to one every 149 minutes this season.
While Mo Salah remains the team’s primary goal source, Cody Gakpo and Diogo Jota have also stepped up, raising questions about Nunez’s long-term future at the club. Although his energy and commitment are undeniable, Liverpool may look to move him on in the summer—especially if they need to replace Salah at the end of the season.
