Dejan Lovren, a close friend of Mohamed Salah, has shared his thoughts on the Liverpool star’s contract standoff amid growing transfer rumors.
Salah’s contract expires this summer, and at 32, he has yet to agree to a new deal with the club. Teammates Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are also in the same situation, fueling speculation about their futures.
Salah remains linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, especially after Al Ittihad’s failed attempt to sign him in 2023.
Lovren, who played alongside Salah for six years at Liverpool, believes the club hasn’t shown the Egyptian forward enough respect in contract negotiations.
“Salah feels certain things are lacking from the club’s side, and I hope it gets resolved soon. But as things stand, he is more likely to leave than stay,” Lovren told WinWin.
“I feel the club doesn’t respect him enough or at least not as much as he thinks he deserves. But that’s another conversation—it all comes down to what’s happening behind the scenes.
“He loves Liverpool deeply and wants to stay, which is the most important thing. Maybe he even sees himself retiring there.”
When asked about the possibility of Salah moving to the Middle East, Lovren responded: “If he leaves, why not?! The Saudi league is becoming more competitive.
“If Mo moves there, he’ll be one of the biggest stars and a massive marketing asset for the league. He would definitely attract more fans. Let’s wait and see what happens.”
Salah joined Liverpool from AS Roma in 2017 and has since had a remarkable, trophy-filled career with the club, scoring 237 goals.
