A surprising report has linked Arsenal with a potential move for a Liverpool star in what could be a dramatic transfer.
During the January transfer window, Arsenal were connected with multiple players, including Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins. However, their bid for Watkins was rejected, with David Ornstein later revealing why the club failed to secure the forward.
Now, another name has surfaced as a possible target for Arsenal.
According to Transfermarkt, Liverpool may be open to selling Diogo Jota for the right price this summer. Additional reports suggest Arsenal could be interested in signing him to address a key position in their squad.
Jota could help solve Arteta’s attacking concerns, given his proven Premier League track record with Wolves and Liverpool. The Portuguese forward first made his mark at Wolves before moving to Liverpool in a £45 million transfer.
Now 28, Jota has scored 64 goals for Liverpool, including eight this season. Despite standing at just 5 ft 10, he is highly effective in the air and not just a traditional poacher.
Arsenal are expected to prioritize signing a striker in the summer, especially after Mikel Arteta voiced his frustration over the club’s failure to secure a No. 9 last month.
“We had a clear intention to explore opportunities to strengthen our squad with impactful players,” Arteta said. “We didn’t achieve that, so we are disappointed in that sense. But we are also very aware that we only want to bring in certain types of players and must remain disciplined.
“When you try your best and don’t succeed, there are lessons to learn. No one knows if it would have been better to sign someone or not—we’ll only find out at the end of the season.”
