Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk reportedly has three major contract offers and has already chosen his preferred destination for next season.
Van Dijk, along with teammates Mo Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold, is out of contract this summer and has yet to agree on a new deal. While his focus remains on Liverpool’s current Premier League campaign—where they currently lead after 23 games—he is free to negotiate a pre-contract with clubs outside of Europe.
Despite being 34 in July, Van Dijk is still regarded as the world’s top central defender and could leave on a free transfer. Reports suggest he has received offers from three major European clubs: Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Juventus, all of whom see him as a valuable addition at no cost.
According to Spanish sources via Football365, Real Madrid is currently leading the race, with Bayern and Juventus closely behind in what is described as an “intense battle” for his signature. However, reports indicate that Van Dijk is most drawn to Barcelona, particularly the prospect of playing under Hansi Flick.
Arne Slot on Liverpool’s Contract Situation
Recent claims suggested Liverpool’s star trio had already agreed to extend their contracts, providing reassurance to fans. However, manager Arne Slot clarified that no deals have been finalized and that the club must be prepared for any departures.
“We have some contractual situations that you may not be aware of,” Slot stated in a press conference.
“Trent, Mo, and Virgil have not extended yet. We know we need to stay sharp and ready for any developments. My focus is mainly short-term, but this club has many capable people looking ahead as well. We always have to be prepared for changes in the squad.”
