Chelsea are reportedly planning a major move for a Liverpool star who has already expressed his desire to leave the club.
Unlike the summer transfer window, Chelsea remained relatively quiet in January, opting not to add to their already large squad. Instead, the club prioritized outgoings, loaning out key players like Ben Chilwell, Joao Felix, and Axel Disasi while selling several young talents.
However, it now appears that Enzo Maresca is preparing for significant signings in the summer of 2025. According to a new report, he has set his sights on a top Liverpool player.
On Thursday night, Liverpool secured a spot in the 2025 Carabao Cup final with a dominant 4-0 victory in the second leg of their semi-final against Tottenham Hotspur, winning 4-1 on aggregate. A key contributor to their domestic cup success has been Irish goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, who has been a regular starter throughout the competition.
Kelleher’s performances have not gone unnoticed, with TBR Football’s chief correspondent, Graeme Bailey, reporting that Chelsea are among the clubs interested in signing the 26-year-old this summer.
Despite his reliability for Liverpool, Kelleher is expected to leave Anfield, following the club’s decision to sign Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili last year. With Mamardashvili set to return from his loan at Sevilla, Kelleher looks likely to move on, and Chelsea are reportedly considering him as a solution to their ongoing goalkeeping struggles.
Throughout the season, Maresca has struggled to find a consistent No. 1, with Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen both failing to impress.
Given Kelleher’s previous statements about his desire for regular playing time, Stamford Bridge could be an ideal destination. While on international duty with the Republic of Ireland in September, Kelleher stated:
“I made it clear in the last few years that I want to go somewhere and be a number one. The club has made that decision to get a goalkeeper (Mamardashvili), which makes it look like they’ve decided to go in another direction.”
“Liverpool have rejected a few bids as well. It’s not always in my hands to fully make the decision. My ambition is clear. I’m good enough, and I want to go and play week in, week out.”
However, Chelsea face competition for Kelleher’s signature, with Bournemouth, Newcastle United, and Celtic also reportedly interested in signing him this summer.
