A jubilant Alan Shearer sent a brief message to a Newcastle player after Arsenal’s Carabao Cup exit.
After losing 2-0 in the first leg at the Emirates, Arsenal’s hopes of a comeback at St. James’ Park were dashed by goals from Jacob Murphy and Anthony Gordon. With their cup run over, the Gunners now shift focus to chasing Liverpool in the Premier League and pursuing their first Champions League title.
Newcastle legend Shearer was thrilled about his team reaching Wembley for the second time in three years. Speaking on The Rest is Football podcast with Gary Lineker and Micah Richards, he revealed he had texted centre-back Dan Burn, saying, “God, you have been amazing the last few weeks.”
Shearer also praised manager Eddie Howe for outmaneuvering Mikel Arteta across both legs, commending Newcastle’s intensity, aggression, and organization. He noted that Arsenal performed well until the final third but lacked the quality to break Newcastle down.
Meanwhile, Arteta and his squad, with no FA Cup commitments, have traveled to Dubai for a training camp before resuming their Premier League and Champions League campaigns.
