Football fans have taken to social media to criticize Arsenal’s recruitment following reports from Spain suggesting the club is preparing a massive bid for a World Cup-winning striker.
Arsenal’s current system primarily relies on Kai Havertz in the forward role, but as a natural attacking midfielder, he may not be the prolific 30-goal-a-season striker they need.
It’s long been argued that Mikel Arteta’s side requires a clinical finisher to secure the league title, and if the latest reports are accurate, they may have identified their target.
As a result, Arsenal has been linked with multiple center-forwards in recent seasons, even making an offer for Ollie Watkins in the latest transfer window.
According to Fichajes, the club is reportedly preparing a bid of around €120 million (£100m) for Inter Milan’s star striker Lautaro Martinez. However, this report has sparked backlash over the club’s recruitment strategy.
“They’ve started their nonsense again,” one fan wrote in response to the report. “They link themselves to every player but sign no one in the end.”
Another added, “How many strikers have been linked to Arsenal now?”
A third fan mocked the club’s ambitions: “They’ve had their cup final—beating City. Put that in their trophy cabinet alongside finishing second two years in a row and the FA Cup.”
Meanwhile, another pointed out the long list of strikers Arsenal has reportedly pursued: “From Rashford to… Sesko. Isak. Watkins. And now Martinez???”
Martinez has been a key player for Inter, winning two Serie A titles and five domestic cups in Italy. He was also the league’s top scorer in the 2023-24 season and was named Italy’s best player in 2024.
Adding to his impressive resume, Martinez has won a World Cup and two Copa America titles with Argentina, making him one of the most decorated strikers in world football.
While Serie A remains one of Europe’s top leagues, the Premier League’s financial power and global exposure could make a move to England highly tempting.
Since joining Inter from Racing Club in 2018, Martinez has scored 144 goals and provided 49 assists in 331 games.
Mail Sport’s Sami Mokbel recently reported that Arsenal continues to monitor both Alexander Isak and Benjamin Sesko.
Isak would likely command a £120m fee, making a deal challenging, while Arsenal had considered a move for Sesko in January, but RB Leipzig was unwilling to sell.
