A Liverpool player departed the club shortly after the transfer deadline.
Arne Slot’s team has had an outstanding 2024/25 season so far, currently leading the league by six points ahead of Arsenal, who have played one more game. Despite working with a limited transfer budget, Slot, 46, has guided Liverpool to the Champions League round of 16 while maintaining their domestic success.
Since his arrival in the summer of 2024, Liverpool has made just one first-team signing—Federico Chiesa from Juventus. They also secured a deal for Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, though he won’t join until the 2025/26 season.
During the winter transfer window, the club did not bring in any new players but saw Stefan Bajcetic (loaned to Las Palmas) and Calvin Ramsey (loaned to Kilmarnock) leave, while 22-year-old goalkeeper Marcelo Pitaluga made a permanent move to Fluminense.
However, another departure occurred shortly after Monday night’s transfer deadline.
Jayden Danns signed a long-term contract with Liverpool and has joined Championship side Sunderland on loan until the end of the season, as confirmed by the club.
The 19-year-old forward, who has scored two goals in seven appearances this season, is highly regarded at Anfield. According to Liverpool, he will complete his injury rehabilitation at the AXA Training Centre before linking up with Sunderland for the remainder of the 2024/25 season.
Sunderland’s director of football, Kristjaan Speakman, explained that Danns was a perfect fit for the club’s needs.
“Jayden is an extremely talented player who matches the profile we were looking for,” Speakman said. “His availability was determined late in the window due to Liverpool’s schedule, and there was strong interest in him. We worked hard to secure his signing.
“Unfortunately, the medical assessment revealed an issue requiring a period of rest. Despite this, Jayden was eager to join Sunderland, and we have collaborated with Liverpool to ensure he has the opportunity to join us later.”
