Mathys Tel makes surprising decision on his preferred club amid interest from Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Spurs.

Manchester United have reportedly reached an agreement to sign Bayern Munich winger Mathys Tel.

The 19-year-old has been linked with several clubs, including Tottenham, Arsenal, and Chelsea. However, according to Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, Tel appears to be heading to Old Trafford.

“I’ve been informed that Mathys Tel has decided to join Manchester United immediately,” Plettenberg posted on X.

Negotiations between Bayern and United are ongoing, but Bayern rejected United’s initial loan offer. The German club is pushing for either a permanent transfer or a loan with an obligation to buy. Talks remain complex, and Arsenal is still in the picture.

This development emerged shortly after United suffered a 2-0 home defeat to Crystal Palace on Sunday.

Tel, a France youth international, is versatile in attack, capable of playing as a winger or on the left side of a front three—similar to Marcus Rashford, who is reportedly set to join Aston Villa on loan.

Bayern sporting director Max Eberl recently told Sky Germany that the club is looking to generate transfer revenue. He acknowledged Tel’s popularity and demand, stating that discussions about his future—whether a loan or permanent sale—are ongoing.

Since Vincent Kompany took charge at Bayern, Tel has struggled for playing time, managing just one assist and no goals in 14 appearances this season.

Despite this, United see him as a promising young talent, aligning with their strategy of recruiting players with potential—evident in their recent signings of 18-year-old Ayden Heaven and 20-year-old Patrick Dorgu.

Plettenberg also shared insights into Tel’s reputation at Bayern, highlighting his strong character, quick adaptation to the German language, and popularity among fans. Many supporters are puzzled by his possible departure but understand his need for regular game time.

Described as open-minded, friendly, and always smiling, Tel now faces a crucial decision in his career, needing to choose the right club to further his development.
