A recent loss to a team featuring Bobby Firmino has left Al-Ettifaq in 12th place, just five points above relegation. Despite the Saudi Pro League’s financial appeal and the signings of players like Jordan Henderson, Gini Wijnaldum, and Demarai Gray, Al-Ettifaq remains one of the league’s less competitive sides, making it difficult to challenge powerhouses like Al-Hilal and Al-Ittihad—both linked with a move for Mo Salah.
Although Gerrard’s departure is reportedly for personal reasons, suggesting no major conflict with the club, his frustrations with the team’s quality were evident in recent press conferences. A return home for a break and reassessment might be the best move if he aims to progress in his coaching career.
