There Can Only Be One Greatest Premier League Team of All Time

Posted on January 27, 2025 By Dailynewsupdate No Comments on There Can Only Be One Greatest Premier League Team of All Time

The debate over the greatest Premier League team of all time is one that continues to ignite passionate arguments among football fans. From invincible campaigns to treble-winning seasons, the Premier League has witnessed some of the most extraordinary teams in football history. But which side deserves to be crowned as the ultimate?

The Contenders

Arsenal’s 2003/04 “Invincibles” are often the first to come to mind. Under Arsène Wenger, the Gunners went an entire league season unbeaten, finishing with 26 wins and 12 draws – a feat unmatched in the Premier League era. Their blend of attacking flair, defensive solidity, and mental resilience remains iconic.

On the other hand, Manchester United’s 1998/99 treble-winning team, led by Sir Alex Ferguson, is widely regarded as one of the most complete squads ever assembled. Winning the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League in one season was a historic achievement that showcased their dominance on both domestic and European fronts.

More recently, Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side of 2017/18 set a new standard for excellence, becoming the first team to achieve 100 points in a Premier League season. With their fluid attacking football, tactical innovation, and unmatched consistency, many argue they redefined the game. City’s subsequent success, including a treble in 2022/23, adds further weight to their legacy.

Liverpool’s 2019/20 title-winning team is another contender. After a 30-year wait, Jürgen Klopp’s side won the league with an incredible 99 points, dominating the competition and finishing 18 points clear of second place. Their relentless pressing and unity captured the hearts of fans worldwide.

What Makes a Team “The Greatest”?

To determine the greatest team, fans and analysts often consider factors like consistency, style of play, trophies won, and impact on the game. While the Invincibles boast an unbeaten league campaign, they fell short in Europe that season, which some see as a blemish on their legacy. Similarly, while City’s 100-point season set records, critics argue that dominance over a longer period is necessary for true greatness.

United’s treble-winning team remains unique in its achievements, combining domestic dominance with European success. Meanwhile, Liverpool’s 2019/20 side is often celebrated for their mental toughness, especially given the long wait for a league title.

The Verdict

The question of the greatest Premier League team is as subjective as it is contentious. Fans’ allegiances and preferences for style and achievement will always color the debate. However, whether you favor Arsenal’s Invincibles, United’s treble winners, City’s centurions, or Liverpool’s champions, one thing is clear: each team has left an indelible mark on Premier League history, and the debate over the “greatest” will continue to fuel barroom arguments for years to come.
