Arsenal star Bukayo Saka has undergone surgery and faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines following a serious hamstring injury.
Saka, who has scored nine goals for Arsenal this season, sustained the injury during the team’s 5-1 victory over Crystal Palace. It marked his third hamstring issue this season, leading to the decision for the England international to undergo surgery.
In Saka’s absence, Arsenal secured a 1-0 win over Ipswich on Friday, with Kai Havertz scoring the decisive goal. The following day, Saka updated fans about his condition via Instagram.
Sharing a photo of himself in a hospital bed, he wrote: “The majority see obstacles, but few see the opportunities. Recovery has begun, and I’m coming back stronger! Thank you all for your messages.”
Fans flooded his post with messages of support, wishing him a speedy recovery. However, manager Mikel Arteta confirmed that Saka is expected to miss over two months, though his exact return will depend on how well his scar tissue heals.
“He had a procedure, and everything went well,” Arteta said after the Ipswich match. “Unfortunately, he’ll be out for many weeks. I think it will be more than two months, but it all depends on how the scar tissue heals in the early stages.”
Against Ipswich, Arteta deployed Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli on the wings, with Martinelli taking Saka’s usual spot on the right. Loan signing Raheem Sterling, who is recovering from a knee injury, is also an option and is expected to return sooner than initially thought.
Additionally, Arsenal may explore the loan market to strengthen their attack, with France internationals Randal Kolo Muani and Kingsley Coman reportedly under consideration as temporary replacements for Saka.
Arsenal’s next fixture is on New Year’s Day when they visit Brentford.
