“You’ve got to remember, Liverpool were top of the league with six games to go last year,” Merson argued. “They lost at home to Crystal Palace. Everyone forgets, but they melted. Arsenal get called bottle jobs for similar situations, but Liverpool were given a pass.”
Despite his warnings, Merson ultimately conceded: “They probably will win it. No, I probably would say Liverpool.”
Liverpool Remain Strong Title Contenders
While acknowledging that the title race is far from over, Liverpool’s position remains strong. A win in their game in hand—following the postponed Merseyside derby—would extend their lead over Arsenal to nine points.
Liverpool’s impressive record this season speaks volumes. They boast the league’s joint-best defense (21 goals conceded) and the most potent attack (54 goals scored). Slot’s side has shown they can adapt to different challenges, making them a formidable force in the title race.
