Real Madrid prepared to splash ‘big money’ on Arsenal star Mikel Arteta considers indispensable

Real Madrid are reportedly planning a move for one of Mikel Arteta’s key players at Arsenal, as they look to strengthen their defense.

The Spanish giants are eager to address ongoing injury issues affecting Eder Militao and David Alaba, and according to Spanish outlet Fichajes, signing a top-tier central defender has become a top priority for the club.

Among their targets is Arsenal’s William Saliba, who has emerged as one of the best defenders in the world over the past three seasons. Real Madrid are said to be prepared to offer a substantial fee to entice him away from north London.

Saliba has played a pivotal role in Arsenal’s transformation from a team chasing a top-four finish to genuine title contenders. However, just last month, the Frenchman reaffirmed his loyalty to Arsenal, saying:
“Yeah, of course, I feel at home. I signed for the club five years ago, but it’s only my third season, and I’m enjoying everything – the players, the staff, and the fans. I feel at home, so of course, why not?”

Saliba’s exceptional performances have drawn praise from both Arsenal legends and rivals. Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk, regarded by many as one of the best defenders in the world, admitted that Saliba is ahead of where he was at the same age. Speaking on the Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast, Van Dijk said:
“Saliba’s making great strides. He’s solid. In possession, he’s doing a great job. When I was his age, I was nowhere near his level. That’s the beauty of football.”

Former Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen also praised Saliba last year, telling the club’s official website:
“He’s a fantastic player. He has everything a modern defender needs – speed, defensive ability, and skill on the ball. His partnership with Gabriel is outstanding, and they’ve been doing an incredible job.”
