Omar Marmoush is now officially a Manchester City player.
This comes as a blow for Liverpool, who were reportedly monitoring the former Frankfurt star during his remarkable 2024/25 season. The Egyptian international has delivered an impressive 20 goals and 14 assists in 26 appearances across all competitions so far.
How he’ll fit into a team led by Erling Haaland—who recently committed to a nine-and-a-half-year contract—remains to be seen. However, the 25-year-old possesses the skills to potentially complement the prolific Norwegian striker.

The ex-Bundesliga forward has joined Manchester City in a €75m (£63.3m) deal after completing a medical during the January window. Pep Guardiola’s side has been active this winter, also securing deals for Vitor Reis from Palmeiras and Abdukodir Khusanov from Lens.
Meanwhile, Liverpool has made little progress in contract renewals and is unlikely to bring in reinforcements this month.
What are Liverpool missing out on?
Marmoush would have needed to adapt his role slightly at Liverpool, given Mo Salah’s continued dominance as the team’s primary forward. Salah, at 32, remains focused on pursuing both team and individual success.
Even so, Marmoush’s technical ability and versatility would have been a valuable asset to Liverpool. His mobility and creativity could have helped break down stubborn low-block defenses—an area where the Reds have struggled recently, particularly against Nottingham Forest and Brentford.
As Michael Wimmer once highlighted, Marmoush thrives in “the spaces in between,” possessing the “orientation skills to turn at the right moment and solve situations with his dynamism and creativity.” These qualities are sure to make him a key player for Manchester City.
