With less than two weeks remaining in the January transfer window, Arsenal are yet to make their first signing, though it’s not for lack of effort.
The club has been linked to several targets this month, including Dusan Vlahovic and Jonathan David, while also exploring options like Viktor Gyökeres. However, a deal for Gyökeres doesn’t appear to be progressing.
According to David Ornstein on Sky Sports, Arsenal are not prioritizing a move for Gyökeres at the moment, and the player himself isn’t particularly interested in joining Arsenal. Manchester United are also interested in Gyökeres, making an Arsenal move even less likely.
Ornstein explained that Arsenal’s search for a striker doesn’t place Gyökeres at the forefront, as his profile doesn’t align with their current priorities. “I don’t think Gyökeres is being prioritized by Arsenal, and it doesn’t seem like he’s prioritizing Arsenal either,” he noted.
While Gyökeres has been in exceptional form this season, outperforming other targets statistically, Arsenal’s hesitation may stem from concerns about signing players from the Portuguese league. While some players from Portugal, like Ruben Dias and Bruno Fernandes, have been huge successes, others, such as Fabio Silva and Eliaquim Mangala, have struggled, creating a mixed record for transfers from the league.
For now, Arsenal seem to be focusing elsewhere as they assess their options for the remainder of the transfer window.
