Liverpool duo Mohamed Salah and Harvey Elliott have addressed questions about their futures, providing intriguing responses.
Following the Reds’ 2-1 Champions League win over Lille, both players were asked by reporters to comment on where their careers might take them.
Elliott Commits to Liverpool
Elliott, who has been linked with a potential summer move to Newcastle, was clear about his intentions. Speaking to TNT Sports, he said, “It’s pretty clear… I’m not leaving. This is my team, this is my club!”
Salah Keeps His Future Uncertain
In contrast, Salah, whose contract expires in June and has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, was less definitive. When asked if he could score another 50 European goals for Liverpool after reaching that milestone against Lille, he replied, “I am not sure about that, but I will give it my best.”
Reflecting on his achievement, Salah added, “Hopefully I’m not the last one. I wasn’t focused on the record before the game, but it’s something I’m very happy and proud of, especially because we won the game. That’s the most important thing. Lille had a really good game plan; they were unbeaten for 21 games and proved tough. I give them credit, but I’m glad we managed to win.”
Liverpool’s Champions League Dominance
The win over Lille solidified Liverpool’s position at the top of their Champions League group, marking their seventh consecutive victory in the competition. Salah opened the scoring in the first half, but Lille’s Jonathan David equalized shortly after Aissa Mandi was sent off. A deflected shot from Elliott eventually sealed the victory for the Reds.
Despite Barcelona’s dramatic 5-4 win against Benfica, Liverpool remains in control of the group. With 21 points from seven matches, no team can surpass their total. A draw in their final game against PSV will be enough to secure the top spot and progression to the next stage.
