Arsenal are reportedly among several clubs preparing to pursue Matheus Cunha, as contract negotiations between the forward and Wolves have stalled.
Former Manchester United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains well-connected in football, revealed to Football Insider that issues arose due to Cunha’s agent making additional demands after an initial agreement had been reached.
Cunha has been instrumental for Wolves this season, contributing 10 goals and 4 assists in 21 league matches. However, tensions have risen following manager Vitor Pereira’s criticism of the Brazilian’s attitude during a 3-1 loss to Chelsea, where he stated, “I do not like his body language. I understand it now, but I will not understand it next time.” This incident has fueled speculation that Cunha might leave the club.
While progress in contract talks had initially offered hope, the breakdown could accelerate his departure. Clubs are now monitoring the situation closely, with potential offers being prepared to secure the forward at a reduced price if Wolves decide to sell.
Brown suggested that resolving the contract issues would have allowed Wolves to demand a higher transfer fee in the summer but criticized Cunha’s agent for acting against his client’s best interests. He noted that such tactics are common but unproductive, saying, “The agent has made it all about himself, and it doesn’t reflect well on anyone.”
Brown also confirmed Arsenal’s interest in Cunha, though he questioned whether the player would be the solution to their needs. He added that other clubs are also ready to step in if Cunha becomes available.
