“I won’t need much time to adapt” – Arsenal target Viktor Gyökeres has hinted that Sporting Lisbon should consider a potential bid from Arsenal. Meanwhile, transfer expert David Ornstein has provided a significant update on the Gunners’ pursuit of the Swedish striker, who is currently regarded as one of the most in-form forwards in world football.

David Ornstein has delivered a major update on Arsenal’s interest in Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyökeres, ahead of a potential transfer. The Swedish forward has been in outstanding form, fueling rumors of a move to the Premier League.

Arsenal, reportedly seeking a top-class No. 9 to enhance their attack, are keeping tabs on Gyökeres, who has consistently impressed with his performances. This search for reinforcements stems from Gabriel Jesus’ struggles to establish himself as the main striker, especially with Kai Havertz showing improvement in the role.

Gyökeres has been a standout player for Sporting Lisbon, scoring an incredible 43 goals and providing 15 assists last season, instrumental in their Liga Portugal title win. This season, the 25-year-old has already contributed 29 goal involvements in 22 matches. On the international stage, he has added 13 goal contributions in just six UEFA Nations League matches for Sweden, further solidifying his reputation as one of the most prolific forwards in the game.

Sporting Lisbon is determined to retain their star player and has no plans to sell him cheaply. Gyökeres is under contract until 2028, with an £83 million release clause. While the club is open to negotiations, they are reportedly unwilling to accept less than £63 million.

Despite the speculation, Ornstein clarified that Arsenal has not made any formal moves for Gyökeres at this stage. Speaking on the Back Pages podcast, he downplayed the chances of a January transfer for the striker.

“There’s naturally speculation around Arsenal because of their search for a striker. However, I’m not aware of any advances being made toward Gyökeres. That could change, but I’m unsure if his profile or price point aligns with Arsenal’s priorities right now. So, I wouldn’t say this is a particularly active pursuit unless circumstances shift,” Ornstein explained.

While Gyökeres is among the most in-form forwards globally, Arsenal seems to be evaluating multiple options for their attack and may not currently prioritize a move for the Swedish striker.
