Arsenal are reportedly preparing a move for a €75 million-rated striker following their 2-2 draw against Aston Villa.
The Gunners squandered a two-goal lead at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday evening, despite goals from Gabriel Martinelli and Kai Havertz putting them in control. Youri Tielemans reduced the deficit with a close-range effort, and Matty Cash’s cross found Ollie Watkins, who volleyed it into the net.
Arsenal thought they had secured a late victory, but Mikel Merino’s strike was disallowed after deflecting off Havertz’s arm. The result marked another instance of dropped points for Mikel Arteta’s side, with defensive issues overshadowing their ability to close out matches.
While defensive frailties were evident, Arsenal’s attacking struggles, particularly in the absence of Bukayo Saka, have been a recurring problem. Initial links to a loan move for RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko were dismissed by his agent, who stated no discussions had occurred with Arsenal.
According to Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke, Arsenal have now shifted their focus to Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen. After potential moves to Chelsea and the Saudi Pro League fell through last summer, Napoli loaned Osimhen to Galatasaray, where he has excelled, scoring 11 goals in 14 Turkish Super Lig matches. He also impressed with a brace in a 3-2 Europa League win over Tottenham in November.
Valued at €75 million by Transfermarkt, Osimhen could be a viable option for Arsenal, especially as Napoli may recall him early from his loan to facilitate a permanent transfer. This scenario could pave the way for Arsenal to secure the 25-year-old Nigerian international as a much-needed attacking reinforcement.
