With each passing day, a reunion between Viktor Gyokeres and Ruben Amorim appears increasingly likely, with a recent report suggesting it could happen this summer.
Gyokeres, who has scored 29 goals in 25 appearances for Primeira Liga leaders Sporting CP this season, reportedly already knows which club he wants to join in the future.
Clubs such as Liverpool, Bayern Munich, Barcelona, and Arsenal have been linked to the Swedish striker. Arsenal, in particular, may be seeking a new forward in January following Gabriel Jesus’ ACL injury.
However, Manchester United has long been considered the frontrunner to sign Gyokeres. Back in November, The Sun reported that the player has his sights set on a Premier League move, specifically to Old Trafford, and a reunion with Amorim.
Now, a report from The Independent has reinforced United’s interest, stating the club remains “hopeful” of beating competition to secure Gyokeres’ signature this summer. Arsenal has also reportedly revisited the idea of signing him, raising his name during discussions about their forward-line challenges.
Gyokeres, for his part, is said to be eager to work with Ruben Amorim again as he aims to further elevate his career after a remarkable stint at Sporting. Despite this, the 26-year-old has not publicly revealed his preferred destination.
Last month, after winning the Guldbollen—an award for the best Swedish male player in Europe—he hinted at his ambitions during an interview with Marca. “I don’t play in the Premier League like others, but I’ve done my best where I am,” he said. “I’ve shown it in Europe, the Champions League, and with the national team—not just in Portugal.”
When asked about his future, Gyokeres remained non-committal: “We’ll see. There are a lot of rumors, but we’re in the middle of the season, and there are still months left. When the time comes, we’ll see what happens.”
He was also asked where he envisions himself at age 30, to which he responded, “Playing for one of the best teams in Europe. That’s the goal.”
