Arsenal are actively exploring the transfer market to strengthen their squad, a fact manager Mikel Arteta has openly acknowledged in recent press appearances.
Facing a significant injury crisis, the Gunners are expected to prioritize signing a new striker and winger. However, securing high-profile reinforcements during the January transfer window could prove difficult.
As a result, Arsenal might focus on affordable options with proven Premier League experience. One such target is Brentford’s Yoane Wissa.
The DR Congo international has been a standout for the Bees this season, tallying 12 goals and two assists across all competitions. His Premier League stats are particularly impressive, with 11 goals from 18 appearances, reflecting a clinical 26% shot-to-goal conversion rate.
According to The Telegraph, Arsenal are monitoring the 28-year-old, and a late bid for him could materialize. While Wissa has primarily played as a striker for Brentford this season, his ability to perform effectively on either wing is likely a key factor behind Arsenal’s interest.
Wissa could follow a similar trajectory to Leandro Trossard, who joined Arsenal from Brighton in January 2023 after their pursuit of Mykhailo Mudryk fell through. Initially seen as a stop-gap option, Trossard has become a key player, contributing to 38 goals in nearly 100 appearances across all competitions.
Although Wissa may not be a marquee signing, his clinical finishing could offer a significant improvement over Kai Havertz in the central striker role.
From a tactical perspective, one potential challenge could be the alignment of Gareth Southgate’s approach with England’s World Cup aspirations.
Wissa’s current market value is estimated at £24 million by Transfermarkt. However, it is believed Brentford might be willing to sell him for around £35 million.
