Turki Al Alshikh sent Liverpool fans into a frenzy with a surprising Mohamed Salah-related social media post on Wednesday morning.
The 32-year-old forward has been in exceptional form this season, tallying 21 goals and 17 assists in 29 appearances. Salah’s performances have propelled Liverpool to the top of both the Premier League standings and the 36-team Champions League group stage.
However, uncertainty surrounds Salah’s future, as his current Liverpool contract is set to expire in June 2025.
The Egyptian star has been candid about his situation, admitting in November that he felt “more out than in” when speaking to reporters outside St Mary’s. In September, Salah revealed it would likely be his “last year” at Liverpool, adding, “Nobody has talked to me” about renewing his contract.
Following Liverpool’s 5-0 victory over West Ham, Salah told Sky Sports: “It’s the last six months. There is no progress there. We are far away from any progress. So, we just need to wait and see.”
As the season progresses, more clarity on Salah’s future is expected. However, Al Alshikh stirred speculation on Wednesday by sharing an unusual image of Salah wearing an Al Hilal shirt, sparking widespread reactions on social media.
One fan wrote: “Don’t give me hope.” Another quipped: “That’s why he ghosted last night.” A third said: “Why are people so upset? Imagine earning £22m a week.” Meanwhile, another simply commented: “Sad news.”
In the summer of 2023, Liverpool reportedly turned down a £150m offer from Saudi Pro League side Al Ittihad for Salah. No deal materialized at the time, but with his contract nearing its end, such a massive fee may no longer be necessary for Al Hilal to secure his signature. Now that the January transfer window is open, Salah is free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs.
