Liverpool have reportedly begun negotiations to sign one of Europe’s most in-demand strikers, as speculation grows over Darwin Nunez’s potential departure from Anfield.
On Monday night, reports revealed that Liverpool rejected a verbal offer of around £70 million for the underperforming Nunez. The bid, said to have come from Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal, could rise to £75 million, according to Sam Maguire, who suggests the Premier League leaders may be open to a deal at that price.
Arne Slot’s team currently leads the league in scoring, with 47 goals in 19 matches. Mohamed Salah has been instrumental with 18 goals, supported by Luis Diaz (8) and Cody Gakpo (6). However, Nunez has struggled, managing just two Premier League goals this season.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano addressed the rumors surrounding Nunez’s future, confirming Saudi interest in the striker. “What I can confirm is that the interest from Saudi Arabia is genuine,” Romano shared on his YouTube channel. “There have been discussions to understand Darwin’s situation, his price tag, and other details, but nothing is advanced at this stage. Liverpool still value Darwin as an important player, and they invested significantly in him.”
Meanwhile, Liverpool has reportedly “opened talks” with German club FC Nurnberg about a potential summer transfer for striker Stefanos Tzimas. Sky reporter Florian Plettenberg claims a phone call between Liverpool and Nurnberg took place recently.
Tzimas, on loan at the 2. Bundesliga side from Greek club PAOK, has impressed this season with eight goals and two assists in 15 appearances. Nurnberg plans to activate a £15.1 million buy option with the intention of selling him in the summer.
In an interview with BILD, Nurnberg’s sporting director Olaf Rebbe hinted at summer moves, saying, “We won’t give up any top performers in the winter, but we’re already exploring options for the summer.”
Liverpool is expected to face stiff competition for Tzimas, with Premier League clubs like Aston Villa, Chelsea, and Brighton reportedly interested, alongside several Bundesliga teams. Tzimas, the youngest goalscorer in PAOK’s history, has become a highly sought-after talent.
