Harry Maguire’s three-word remark to Kai Havertz before brawl revealed

Harry Maguire confronted Kai Havertz after the Arsenal forward won a controversial penalty during their FA Cup clash, accusing him of diving and reportedly shouting, “You cheating scumbag.”

The heated moment occurred with 20 minutes left and the score tied at 1-1. Havertz dribbled into the box and went down under a challenge from Maguire, prompting the referee to award a penalty. With no VAR available in the third round of the FA Cup, Maguire’s protests to the official were in vain. Frustrated, the Manchester United defender turned his anger toward Havertz, accusing him of simulation.

The decision sparked a melee between both teams, with players exchanging words and Manuel Ugarte clashing with Havertz, who ended up on the ground again. Once the chaos subsided, Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard stepped up to take the penalty, but United goalkeeper Altay Bayindir made an outstanding save to keep the game level heading into the final stages.

Former Newcastle star Alan Shearer praised Bayindir’s save but questioned the penalty decision. Speaking on BBC Sport, Shearer said, “Altay Bayindir gets down really, really quickly. He gets a good strong hand to it. I thought the penalty was a bit harsh, I really did.”

Earlier in the match, Bruno Fernandes had given United the lead with a well-taken goal set up by Alejandro Garnacho. Arsenal equalized through Gabriel Magalhães, whose shot deflected in off Matthijs de Ligt.

United were dealt another blow when Diogo Dalot received a second yellow card for a reckless tackle, reducing them to 10 men for the final stretch of the game.

Both teams are eager to secure silverware this season for different reasons. Ruben Amorim hopes to turn around United’s inconsistent campaign, while Mikel Arteta faces pressure to end Arsenal’s trophy drought.
