Arsenal are eager for Ethan Nwaneri to commit to a long-term contract with the club and have held discussions to secure his future in the coming weeks.
Former Manchester United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains well-connected in football, revealed to Football Insider that finalizing a new deal for Nwaneri is now a top priority for the Gunners.
Brown had previously told Football Insider in October that Arsenal were preparing a significant contract offer for the 17-year-old, reflecting their confidence in his talent and potential.
Nwaneri made history in 2020 as the youngest-ever Premier League player and the first 15-year-old to feature in the competition when he appeared in a win over Brentford. He has since become the youngest player to start consecutive league games for Arsenal and the first to score two league goals before turning 18.
The teenager is expected to play a pivotal role on the right wing during Bukayo Saka’s absence, as the England international recovers from a serious hamstring injury sustained in Arsenal’s 5-1 victory against Crystal Palace.
Brown, with extensive experience working with elite players, expressed confidence in Nwaneri’s ability to meet the challenge, emphasizing the faith Arsenal has placed in him.
“Securing a new contract is their priority,” Brown said. “While they’ll be looking at external signings, promoting talent from within the squad can be incredibly valuable.
“From what I understand, talks have already taken place, and they’ll want an agreement within the next few weeks. Nwaneri is a huge talent and could fill in until Saka returns.
“Arteta trusts him, and awarding a new contract would demonstrate the club’s confidence in him.”
