Liverpool have reportedly placed a £41 million bid for Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni following their disappointing 2-2 draw with Manchester United.
On Sunday, Liverpool’s pursuit of the Premier League title suffered a setback after what was arguably their poorest performance of the season against United. In front of a frustrated Anfield crowd, Liverpool struggled, with goals from Lisandro Martinez and Amad Diallo securing a deserved draw for United. Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah scored for Liverpool.
In the aftermath of the result, reports suggest that Liverpool have made a £41 million offer for Tchouameni, the 24-year-old midfielder from Madrid. Although previously linked with a move to Anfield, Tchouameni opted to join Madrid instead. Besides Liverpool, he has also attracted interest from clubs like Manchester United, Manchester City, and Chelsea.
This season, Tchouameni has made 21 appearances for Los Blancos across all competitions, with a transfer value of €80 million according to Transfermarkt.
Reflecting on the draw with United, Slot commented: “It definitely feels like two points dropped. People will remember the chance Harry Maguire had at the end, but we shouldn’t forget that just two minutes earlier, Virgil van Dijk had a great opportunity to make it 3-2. It was a tough match, much like the Nottingham Forest game, where both teams played a similar style.”
He continued: “They defended in a low block with many bodies, and when they had the ball, they didn’t take risks in build-up, instead opting for long passes. Every free-kick they had, whether in their half or ours, was launched forward, much like Forest’s approach.”
Liverpool will next face Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup semi-final on Wednesday night.
