Arsenal Transfer Update: Alexander Isak breaks silence while Matheus Cunha confirms his decision

Arsenal are eager to sign a striker during the January transfer window, but Newcastle’s Alexander Isak and Wolves’ Matheus Cunha seem unattainable this month.

The Gunners’ 1-1 draw against Brighton on Saturday highlighted why manager Mikel Arteta is looking to strengthen his squad. Despite Ethan Nwaneri’s goal, Joao Pedro’s penalty denied Arsenal victory. Missing key players such as Bukayo Saka, Kai Havertz, and Jurrien Timber, Arsenal struggled to find a cutting edge in attack.

While the club has long considered adding a forward, Saturday’s reliance on Gabriel Jesus and Leandro Trossard exposed their need for reinforcements. However, signing players in January, particularly from rival Premier League teams, remains a challenge.

Isak Comments on Transfer Speculation

Alexander Isak has been in phenomenal form, scoring in seven consecutive Premier League games, including Newcastle’s 2-1 victory over Tottenham on Saturday. Regarded as one of the league’s top strikers, Isak has been a missed opportunity for Arsenal, who failed to secure his signature in the past.

Former Arsenal star Paul Merson recently urged the club to spend heavily on Isak, despite Newcastle valuing him at £150 million. “If I were Arsenal and had the funds, I’d break the bank for Isak,” Merson told Sky Sports. “He’s world-class and would elevate Arsenal to another level.”

However, a move seems improbable. Speaking to Prime Video Sweden, Isak expressed his satisfaction at Newcastle, saying: “Playing at this level has always been my dream. Being in the Premier League and representing a club like Newcastle, with its incredible fan base, is something truly special.”
