Manchester United star Alejandro Garnacho has deactivated his X account just a few hours before his side face Liverpool in the Premier League.
The Argentine operated with the account called @agarnacho7 before supporters noticed that the page had been taken down and those attempting to search for it received an error message.
Garnacho has kept his Instagram page intact, though his bio now includes the message “NO TWITTER” alongside a large red cross emoji.
It remains to be seen whether Garnacho will be included from the start against Liverpool, which is going ahead despite concerns that heavy snowfall would postpone the derby, having been excluded from the starting lineup on several occasions by Ruben Amorim.
He had reportedly been dropped from the United squad alongside Marcus Rashford over alleged disrespect to Amorim on the touchline, while preparing to come off the bench against Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League.
Amorim was said to be angered after Garnacho turned his back on the head coach while receiving tactical instructions, though Garnacho’s camp insisted that it was a miscommunication and there is no rift between the pair.
Some supporters may view Garnacho’s decision as a sign of intent that he is willing to block out any outside distractions solely to focus on improving United’s form.
He has come off the bench in each of United’s last four matches, all defeats to Newcastle, Wolves, Bournemouth and Tottenham.
The 20-year-old has recently drawn criticism from Liverpool icon Graeme Souness, who claimed that the winger “acts like a wrong’un” and has “no chance of fulfilling” his potential at Old Trafford.
“I spoke last week about the example Bruno Fernandes sets and I hear about Alejandro Garnacho being unhappy with the manager,” Souness wrote for the Daily Mail. “Can someone remind me of just who he is?
“The last time I looked he was only a 20-year-old boy. One who is only one step up, on a ten-rung ladder. Who are you? He acts like a ‘wrong ‘un’ on the football pitch and, unless he changes, he’s got no chance of fulfilling what obvious potential he has.
“Going back to my generation and before, Manchester United have always had a problem in keeping players grounded.
“I never get tired of underlining the value of having good senior professionals in your dressing room but there has been a drought of real men at Manchester United for over a decade now.”
