Liverpool are close to completing their first transfer of the January window, according to Fabrizio Romano, who reports that all necessary documents have been signed for the move.
While speculation continues about Trent Alexander-Arnold’s future amid links to Real Madrid, Liverpool appear to be finalizing the departure of another player.
Marcelo Pitaluga, who has been on loan at Scottish Championship club Livingston this season following previous stints at Macclesfield and St Patrick’s Athletic, seems set to leave Anfield. The 22-year-old goalkeeper joined Liverpool from Fluminense in October 2020 for an initial fee of £1 million and was highly regarded after helping Brazil win the U-17 World Cup.
However, after failing to make a senior appearance for Liverpool—despite being an unused substitute seven times during Jurgen Klopp’s tenure—Pitaluga is now expected to return to Fluminense. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the move on Sunday, stating, “Liverpool and Fluminense signed all documents for GK Marcelo Pitaluga to return to Brazil. Liverpool included a 40% sell-on clause, no transfer fee involved.”
Reflecting on his departure from Fluminense in 2020, Pitaluga had shared an emotional farewell on social media, expressing gratitude for his decade-long journey at the Rio-based club and pride in representing its colors.
