Viktor Gyökeres sends timely transfer signal to Arsenal amid striker search.
Former Coventry City forward Viktor Gyökeres showcased his value once again by scoring a hat-trick for Sporting CP, reigniting discussions about a potential move to Arsenal.
As the Gunners continue their hunt for a striker during the January transfer window, Gyökeres’ prolific form has captured the attention of fans. While the Swedish international previously ruled out a January transfer, excitement builds for a possible summer 2025 deal. If Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta considers reinforcing the squad this month, Gyökeres has made a strong case to be the top target.
Gyökeres, who has a €100m (£83m) release clause, has already earned Coventry City approximately £20m from his transfer, with potential additional income tied to a 10% sell-on clause shared with Brighton.
The 25-year-old scored his 71st, 72nd, and 73rd goals in just 78 games for Sporting during a dramatic 4-4 draw with Vitória SC, with his goals coming in the 2nd, 14th, and 57th minutes. Despite his efforts, Sporting’s struggles persist following the November departure of coach Rúben Amorim to Manchester United.
Reports suggest that while Gyökeres’ release clause remains high, Sporting may allow a summer exit for a reduced fee of €60-70m (£50-58m).
