Mohamed Salah has provided a significant update on his contract situation with Liverpool, just days ahead of their match against Manchester United.
The Egyptian forward has been in remarkable form this season, netting 20 goals across all competitions. He aims to add to his tally of 17 Premier League goals when Liverpool faces Man United on Sunday.
In a pre-match interview with Sky Sports, Salah addressed his contract uncertainty, confirming that, as it stands, this could be his final season at the club, with his current deal set to expire at the end of the campaign.
“My top priority has always been winning the Premier League with Liverpool,” Salah said. “I usually talk about the Champions League, but this is the first time I’ve expressed a strong desire to win the league. Perhaps it’s because we couldn’t celebrate the last one the way we wanted.
“Coming back here, knowing it’s my last year as things stand, I want to do something special for the city. We waited 30 years for that title, only to win it during the pandemic, with no proper celebration. Hopefully, we can make it happen this year.”
When asked if he believes this will be his final season at Anfield, the 32-year-old responded, “So far, yes. We’re in the final six months of my contract, and there’s been no progress. We’ll just have to wait and see.”
This isn’t the first time Salah has spoken about his uncertain future. After last weekend’s win over West Ham, Liverpool manager Arne Slot praised him, saying, “Mo and the word extraordinary often go together. He consistently delivers and works hard defensively. While others contribute to creating chances, his ability to finish them is unmatched.”
Since joining Liverpool in 2017, Salah has had a legendary career, scoring 231 goals and leading the club to Premier League and Champions League triumphs. This season, he’s determined to add to his accolades before potentially moving on.
