Report: Liverpool set to miss out on £75m Premier League talent to Chelsea.

Liverpool are trailing Chelsea in the pursuit of Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi. The England international attracted interest from several clubs during last summer’s transfer window, but a move away from Selhurst Park did not happen, despite rumors of a potential transfer to Newcastle United. Now, Guehi is once again attracting attention, with major Premier League clubs eager to sign him.

According to GiveMeSport, Chelsea are ahead of Liverpool, Manchester United, and Newcastle in the race for the centre-back. The former Chelsea player could return to Stamford Bridge, with the club known for spending heavily in the transfer market, as evidenced by their activity last summer. Under manager Enzo Maresca, they strengthened multiple positions and plan to do so again this year.

While Liverpool had hoped for a partnership between Guehi and Virgil van Dijk at Anfield, Chelsea’s interest could derail those plans. The reason Chelsea has the upper hand is that their rivals are less willing to invest heavily in January.

Since leaving Chelsea in 2021, Guehi has become one of the Premier League’s top defenders. His performances in Euro 2024 further solidified his reputation as one of England’s best players. It’s no surprise that top clubs are pursuing him, but Liverpool is currently hesitant to make a big investment. Instead, they are focused on contract negotiations with Trent Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk, and Mohamed Salah, as the future of these key players remains uncertain and is a priority for the club.
