Trent Alexander-Arnold ‘sets two demands for Liverpool’ to turn down Real Madrid and agree to a new contract.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has reportedly set two key conditions for Liverpool to meet if he is to turn down a move to Real Madrid this summer.

The 26-year-old, whose contract expires at the end of the season, has become a central figure in transfer speculation during the January window.

According to Paul Joyce of The Times, Liverpool rejected a £20 million bid from Real Madrid on New Year’s Eve. The reigning Champions League holders are eager to secure Alexander-Arnold early, despite the offer being significantly lower than Liverpool’s valuation if he were on a longer-term deal. Real Madrid’s bid highlights their determination, even though they could negotiate a pre-contract agreement to sign him for free in the summer.

While the Liverpool Echo previously reported in December that Alexander-Arnold has not expressed a desire to leave Anfield, the club is still working to persuade him to stay.

Ben Jacobs revealed on talkSPORT that Alexander-Arnold has outlined two demands for extending his contract with Liverpool: a minimum three-year deal and a promise to become the club’s captain in the future. Jacobs added, “Keep an eye on whether discussions about Virgil van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold are connected. If Trent is assured of a future captaincy, it could affect Van Dijk’s situation.”

Currently, Liverpool appear more confident about retaining Van Dijk and Mohamed Salah, while Alexander-Arnold’s future remains uncertain.

Last month, The Athletic reported that Liverpool had presented new contract offers to Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk, and Salah. However, Salah, after Liverpool’s 5-0 win over West Ham, admitted to Sky Sports that negotiations were still far from being resolved, emphasizing his focus on the team for now.

Van Dijk has stayed silent on contract talks, but journalist David Ornstein suggested there is optimism at Anfield that both he and Salah will eventually agree to new deals.
