Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah was the man of the match in his side’s 5-0 win at West Ham on Sunday, but he was snubbed by Andy Robertson in the dressing room
Andy Robertson shared a light-hearted moment with Mohamed Salah on social media following the Egyptian’s standout performance for Liverpool amid ongoing contract renewal discussions. Salah was named man of the match in Liverpool’s 5-0 victory over West Ham on Sunday, contributing one goal and two assists to his already impressive record.
This season, he has scored 17 goals and provided 13 assists in just 18 Premier League matches for Liverpool. His exceptional form has not only propelled Liverpool to the forefront of the Premier League title race but also increased pressure on the club to keep him.
Like Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, Salah’s current contract is set to expire at the end of June, creating an unwelcome distraction for Liverpool. Despite this, his performances remain unaffected
After his stellar performance at the London Stadium, Salah took a customary dressing room selfie with team-mates Alexander-Arnold, Cody Gakpo and Diogo Jota, which prompted a response from Robertson. “I’ll make a picture one day,” the left-back wrote.
Having not yet scored for Liverpool in 24 appearances across all competitions this term, Robertson may need Salah to stick around in order to feature in a selfie. It’s been reported that both Salah and Van Dijk will sign new contracts with Liverpool in the coming weeks, putting an end to speculation about their futures.
Salah provided an update on the situation after the West Ham win. In an interview with Sky Sports, he downplayed the likelihood of imminent good news regarding his situation. “No, we are far away from that,” said Salah.
“I don’t want to put something in the media and people start saying stuff, but nothing really [has] moved on but for now I’m focused on the team and hopefully we win the Premier League.
“I will do my best for the team to win the trophy. There is a few other teams catching up with us and we need to stay focused and humble and go again. I am just trying to enjoy the game. At the end of the day I came here for the result and I wanted to do something in the game, but I am almost hungry for more.”
Liverpool have a six-point lead at the top of the table, bolstered by Chelsea’s consecutive losses. The Reds face Manchester United at home in their next Premier League match on Sunday, followed by the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Tottenham.
